Your cheek carries the beautiful rose.

My mind does not hesitate between a sword,
that kills and a rose that brings the slain to life?
That kills, and a rose that revives the slain.

No breeze caresses it a little.

The nature of the branch only trembles
at the breeze's passing thought, so that it may bend.
At the idea of the breeze so it would sway.

تعالى الله أوجد فيك حسن
جميلاbeautiful ماnot وجدتI have found لهto it مثيلاan equal
جميلا ما وجدت له مثيلا
Exalted is God, who created in you a beauty
Glory to God who created in you beauty,
so lovely—I have found no equal to it.
So beautifully that I found no equal.

لمأخوذ به أخذا وبيلا
So, how wondrous are beauty's ways! I am
How strange is the matter of beauty,
indeed seized by it in a grievous grip.
I am so captivated, so confused by it.

It keeps me sleepless, preoccupies me, and departs,
It worries me, preoccupies me, and passes
leaving a heavy sorrow in my breast.
Leaving heavy worries in my thoughts.

And many a time it shot and struck my heart
Sometimes it throws, hitting my heart
with its two eyes, and felled me, slain.
With its eyes, so it kills me.

So what have I to do with love, when the springtime of my life
Why me and love, and the spring of my life
quarrels with me and pursues the impossible?
Anger me and pursue the impossible?

Oh my misery! You have wearied my travel
and my companions, and both staying and departing.
My companions, my stays and departures.

فقدتI would lose بهwith it الخليلةthe beloved woman والخليلاand the close friend
فقدت به الخليلة والخليلا
And poetry still endures; but if it deserts me,
The amulet did not stop, so if it abandoned me
I would lose with it both beloved and friend.
I would lose the girl friend and the boy friend.
