ألا زَعمتْ أبناءُ يَشْكُرَ أننا

بِربْعِهم باءوا هنالِك ناضِلُ

Lo, the sons of Yashkur claimed that we

Alas! The sons of Yashkur claimed that we

Are contenders there in their encampment—may they come to grief!

Lost a quarter of our men there while striving nobly on;

ستمنعُنا منكم ومن سوءِ صنْعِكمْ

ستمنعُنا منكم ومن سوءِ صنْعِكمْ

صَفائِحُ بِيضٌ أخْلصتْها الصياقِلُ

صَفائِحُ بِيضٌ أخْلصتْها الصياقِلُ

We shall be shielded from you and from your evil deeds by

But their evil deeds shall not deter us;

White sword-blades, refined by the sword-polishers,

Our bright polished blades remained faithful and pure;

وأَسْمرُ خَطِّيٌّ إذا هُزَّ عاسِلٌ

وأَسْمرُ خَطِّيٌّ إذا هُزَّ عاسِلٌ

بأيدي كُماةٍ جَرَّبَتْها القَبائلُ

بأيدي كُماةٍ جَرَّبَتْها القَبائلُ

And a brown Khatti spear that sways when brandished,

And our dark brown steeds, when goaded on by warriors,

In the hands of champions whom the tribes have tested.

Were tried and tested by the tribes.
