أتى اليوم حاتمُ أهل النهى

أتى اليوم حاتمُ أهل النهى

على أنَّه للندى فاتحُ

على أنَّه للندى فاتحُ

Today has come the Hatim of the wise,

As one who opens the way to generosity.

أغرُّ غدا السعدُ لمَّا استهلَّ

أغرُّ غدا السعدُ لمَّا استهلَّ

وهو لغرَّته ماسح

وهو لغرَّته ماسح

A radiant one: when he gave his first cry, Good Fortune came,

Stroking his shining brow.

وهنَّا به المجدُ وفَّاده

وهنَّا به المجدُ وفَّاده

وبشرها الشرف الواضح

وبشرها الشرف الواضح

And Glory congratulated its visitors on his birth,

And manifest Honor brought them glad tidings.

وقالوا جميعاً وقد أرخوا

وقالوا جميعاً وقد أرخوا

نرى وُلِدَ الخلفُ الصالحُ

نرى وُلِدَ الخلفُ الصالحُ

And all together they said, recording the date:

We see: the worthy heir has been born.
