1. قل للنسيم وقد سرى

    سحراً بأنفاسٍ رقيقه

    Say to the breeze as it wafts

    Before dawn with delicate breaths:

  2. يا مشبهاً عندي أبا

    محمود في طيب الخليقه

    O you who, to me, resemble Abu

    Mahmud in sweetness of character,

  3. احمل إليه رسالة

    تحكي سجاياه الأنيقه

    Carry him a message

    That tells of his graceful qualities,

  4. من شيِّق في لجَّة الأش

    واق مهجته غريقه

    From one yearning, in the deep sea of longing,

    Whose heart lies drowned.

  5. ولأنت والبرقُ ازويا

    عن قلب وامقه خفوقه

    And you and the lightning—take away

    The fluttering from his lover's heart,

  6. شوقاً لحضرته التي

    كلّ النفوس لها مشوقه

    Born of longing for his presence, for which

    Every soul is filled with longing.

  7. هو فرع أصلٍ قد غدتْ

    يثرى على الجوزاء عروقه

    He is a branch of a stock whose

    Roots have grown rich above al-Jawza,

  8. من دوحةٍ في ريِّ ماء ال

    مكرمات غدت وريقه

    From a spreading tree, watered with the water of

    Noble deeds, that has grown leafy.

  9. يا مَن تمنَّى النجم حين

    سما إلى العليا لحوقه

    O you whom the star wished, when

    You rose to the heights, to catch up with,

  10. مَن ذا لمجدك يرتقي

    وسواك لم يسلك طريقه

    Who can rise to your glory,

    When none but you has trodden its path?

  11. إنَّ الكرام هم المجاز

    وأنت للكرام الحقيقه

    Indeed, the generous are but a metaphor,

    And you are generosity's true embodiment.
