O you to whose resolve I bound my hope, when

the cords of humankind’s aspirations were frail.

I clung to him after I had tried them,

and was freed from all in whom I had placed my hope.

They do not understand noble deeds, as though such deeds were

Arabic, and they themselves were Turks.

Through you I have forcefully driven calamities

away from me, though I myself could not stir.

I left the Kawthar of your hand’s bounty, seeking

the water of life; then ruin engulfed me.

So I called out, crying for help, that you might snatch me free—

a severed limb, chewed by the fangs of calamities.

So remain safe, that your lover’s eye may be gladdened by you,

and the eyes of the spiteful be pricked with thorns because of you.

They course for them, with their good and ill fortunes,

for all time—your exalted glory and the celestial spheres.
