May you never cease, O Time, unveiling a lovely sight

Of a countenance whose happiness is joined to its good fortune,

Of a noble man whose brow shone in al-Karkh

As a sun whose rays tear the darkness apart.

Radiant, he rose to eminence and became the full moon gazed upon by the

world; he gave generously and became a rain cloud pouring down.

And how often I have heard a caller cry, 'Who will do a noble deed?'

But have you heard anyone but him say, 'I will'?

    Muhammad, of noble character—his palm,

white, has so often encircled humankind's neck with favors.

Indeed, by the girdling wrap of his eminence and all it has gathered

Of glory, and by his two mantles and all they contain,

His glory has indeed clothed all of al-Zawra

In a mantle of pride in which she rivaled Adn.

O you who extend a hand in generosity, whose bounty

Makes the two most generous—the sea and rain clouds—seem miserly,

We measured humankind and found them lowlands beside you,

All of them, and found you their summits.

    يا خِفَّةَ الطودِ لو في طِفلكم وُزِنا

    And forbearance is born in your midst, along with you;

How light the mountain would be, if weighed against your infant!

    مَن راعَه الدهرُ واستذرى به أمِنا

    May the house of your eminence ever remain a sanctuary for humankind;

Whoever Time has frightened and who seeks refuge in it is safe.

You are the jewels of glory's necklace; may there never be an end

To the two hands of your eminence adorning Time with you.
