Lo, the death-herald came early, announcing a sojourner whose repose

Alas the first to lament with streaming tears

was to lie pillowed, with goodness, beneath the earth of the grave.

Lay pillowed while kindness sleeps beneath the grave's dust

وعاش الهُدى فيه ومات بموته

وعاش الهُدى فيه ومات بموته

فأرِّخ معاً غاب الهُدى هو والمهدي

فأرِّخ معاً غاب الهُدى هو والمهدي

And guidance lived in him and died with his death.

And guidance lived within him, and died with his death

So record the date: guidance itself and al-Mahdi vanished together.

So date them together, guidance and its source have passed away
