ما أكثر الناس لولا أنَّهم بقرٌ

ما أكثر الناس لولا أنَّهم بقرٌ

تأتي المثالبُ أفواجاً إذا ذكروا

تأتي المثالبُ أفواجاً إذا ذكروا

How numerous people would be, were they not cattle!

How many people, were they not mere cattle,

Their faults come in droves whenever they are mentioned.

Their faults in droves would come, if they recalled,

لو شام آدم بعضاً من فضائحهم

لو شام آدم بعضاً من فضائحهم

لما أحبَّ له أن ينسبَ البشرُ

لما أحبَّ له أن ينسبَ البشرُ

Had Adam beheld some of their disgraceful deeds,

If Adam caught a whiff of their disgraces,

He would not have wished humankind to be traced back to him.

He would not have wished humans to be named his kin.
