1. للمجدِ طلعتكَ البهيَّة

    شمسٌ تشعُّ على البريَّه

    For glory, your radiant countenance

    is a sun shining upon creation.

  2. وبنانُ كفِّكَ للندى

    وطفاءُ ساكبةٌ رَويَّه

    And your hand’s fingers, in generosity,

    are a dense cloud, pouring, laden with rain.

  3. ولكَ المناقبُ في سما

    ءِ الفخرِ مُزهِرةٌ مُضيَّه

    And your virtues, in the sky

    of glory, are blossoming and radiant.

  4. لا زلتَ يابنَ جلا همو

    مَ الوفدِ طلاَّع الثنيَّه

    May you ever remain, O son of him who dispelled the cares

    of the visitors, one who scales the mountain pass,

  5. كالطودِ حلماً أو تهزُّ

    كَ للثناءِ الأريحيَّه

    like a mountain in forbearance—or stirred

    to win praise by your generous spirit.

  6. أبني الزمانِ وراءَكم

    عن هذهِ الرُّتب العليَّه

    O sons of the age, keep back

    from these exalted ranks.

  7. ودعوا الفخارَ بأسرِهِ

    لأَغرَّ بسَّامِ العشيَّه

    And leave glory in its entirety

    to a radiant man, ever smiling at evening.

  8. خيرُ البريَّةِ مَن تعيشُ

    على عوارفهِ البريَّه

    The best of creation is he who sustains

    creation through his benefactions.

  9. هذا أبو الهادي الذي

    يعطي ويحتقرُ العطيَّه

    This is Abu al-Hadi, who

    gives and deems the gift paltry,

  10. لو يرضَ بالدُّنيا وما فيها

    لوافدِهِ هديَّه

    even were he content with the world and all it holds

    as a gift for his visitor.

  11. كرماً تُبشِّرُ وفدَهُ

    بالنُجحِ بهجتهُ الوضيَّه

    Out of generosity, his visitors are given glad tidings

    of success by his radiant cheer.

  12. حلوُ الحُميَّا خُلقهُ

    مُرُّ الحفاظِ مع الحميَّه

    His character is sweet in its heady ardor,

    bitter in defending honor, with protective zeal.
