too deeply for any probe to reach its bottom.

So hurl yourself into mortal perils; for

fear of death is nothing but humiliation and abasement.

among them, nor is a fallen man raised up in their midst.

there, and their turbans, being spears and blades,

    vying among themselves for death,

as though she were a richly perfumed maiden.

yours alone, of all men, are the coming to water and the sending away?

a fresh breeze, nor any rain fall!

For what she did, she has donned garments of shame,

black ones, which disgrace itself undertook to dye.

To your humiliation, it has come to this: among themselves

the provinces toss your women to and fro.

a torrent through the depths of the wastes:

O you who force mounts, worn by night travel’s hidden depths,

across a waterless waste whose dangers bar its crossing,

    ما للأُسود بقاعها إصحارُ

    where no lion ventures out upon its plains;

forever its serpent writhes amid the mirage,

from the heat of the blazing, crumbling sand dunes.

whose swift trot leaves even the wind exhausted behind,

each a forward-leaning she-camel tossed from hill to hill,

drawn by the highlands and the lowlands,

a sanctuary whose precincts the fates avoid.

to the provinces through justice and their might?

what destiny has barred from reach.

and he stumbles over the souls of armored champions.

May God bless him, who is veiled

in the unseen, whose justice all lands await.
