Your son ʿAbd Allah did not shield his she-camels
Nor did your son Abdullah save his she-camels
when you came upon them in their grazing grounds.
When you caught sight of them in their pastures.

Behold them in his protected pasture, grazing freely,
like palaces, their lofty tops swaying.
Like palaces, with their lofty tops swaying.

Then you said: “ʿAbd Allah could never have fattened them so
So you said: Abdullah would not have fed them fully
had he not been my son—even if he himself gave them drink.
Had he not been my son, nor would he have quenched their thirst.

He sought the aid of my prestige in his trading,
He has drawn on my influence in his trade,
and, through the name Abu Hafs, kept multiplying them.
And kept expanding it in Abu Hafs's name.

A claim to their increase before their purchaser does.

This is a policy whose framer is devoted to God;
And this is a policy—God bless its deviser—
it restored rights and enriched those who sought its bounty.
That restored rights and so enriched those seeking its bounty.

What is socialism, whose cause is so sought
Socialism, whose realm is sought
among humankind, but one edifice among this policy’s edifices?
Among humankind, is but one edifice among its edifices.

And if we are its people and the soil from which it sprang,
So if we ourselves are its people and its birthplace,
they knew it before its own people did.
They indeed knew it before its own people did.
