People marveled at you, O son of Sulayman,

having seen a marvel in your keeping.

They saw rain and fire within your sanctuary:

the one pouring down, the other blazing in flames.

And they forgot that your hand’s bounty is rain,

ever near to those hoping to draw water.

And the fire is a guest beset by time’s hardships,

    who found this courtyard spacious,

so it came to cool its burning thirst with drops

from the bounty of a lord who comforts the stranger.
