Turn aside toward us and pause, O Tarifa,
Turn around and go back, O one traveling at nightfall
Turn aside to us and pause, O Tarifa,
For less than the time it takes to see the camel standing still.
Before the camel comes into view standing still
Just long enough for the camel to be seen standing.

غَدَوا وَرَدُّوا جِلَّةً مَقاذِفا
I was not stirred until they tore down the tent’s rear supports.
I was not disturbed until they scattered the ashes
I was not stirred until they tore the tent curtains,
They went out at dawn and brought back great, long-striding camels.
They departed and returned all attacking with spears
They departed early and drove back great, swift camels,

حِذارَ دارٍ مِنكِ أَن تُساعِفا
Do you not see the eyes streaming with tears,
Do you not see the roving eyes
Do you not see the eyes shedding tears,
For fear of a hunter seeking you, lest you two favor one another?
Beware of an abode, lest it double your sorrow
For fear that an abode of yours might not be reached?
