Repent: lifetimes are but deceptive lightning,
and by its flash life is scattered into drizzle.
and with their flash they leave life as fine spray.

Be blessed with a righteous death in repentance
well-pleasing, clothing sinners in tatters.
that is acceptable, clothing sinners in rags.

For God hates it and will not be pleased with it,
and we see Him just, inexorable in judgment.
and we see Him just, decisive in judgment.

for God approves of the energetic worker.

Shun sins, fearing their seduction:
And avoid sins for fear of their waywardness;
honey at first shows you sweetness,
honey at first shows you sweetness.

Then, once it takes hold of you, it becomes nauseating,

Fire and vermin are easier to endure
For fire and insects are easier to endure
than the evil a person reaps from committing sin.
than the evil of sin that forcefully draws you back.

Then accept hell, tormented by its blaze,
So accept hell, tormented by its flames,
and let your state in torment be utter scattering.
and your state in torment will be wretched.

sins have indeed been stuffed with foul rags.

The sword is among their servants; when they appear,
For the sword is among their servants; when they appear,
you see them as death—manifest and grasping.
you see them as death, revealed as a snatcher.

So hasten, heedless one, to repentance:
So hasten, then, you who are heedless of repentance!
why neglect its appointed time—and why?
Why neglect its time, and for what reason?

leave reason in fragments when they descend.

Bear down upon it if you wish to guide it,
So be stern with it if you wish to guide it:
for the force of fire can weaken steel.
for fire's resolve weakens steel.

that is fleeting, in which you imagined sweetness.

This is what made the defiled one pure.
This is what made the defiled pure;
Hope for nothing from that like what comes from this.
for this purpose, expect nothing to equal this.

Do not promise God that you will repent,
and then grow slack in it; instead renew your self-command.
then grow lax in it; rather, renew your diligence.

You never cease tending the wounds of your body,
For you will not slacken in treating your body's wounds,
and the soul has greater claim, if you see it torn to pieces.
and the soul deserves it more if you see it in shreds.

Rise, then, and repent while your branch is still supple;
So rise and repent while your branch remains supple;
once it withers, you will be lowly and cast away.
once it withers, you will be lowly, discarded refuse.

The King of creation, when He willed, made her sovereign over creation;
The King of humankind, when He willed, made her queen over humankind;

so by His permission she gained full dominion.
