نزِّه فؤادك عن حب الجمال به

نزِّه فؤادك عن حب الجمال به

ولا تطع في الهوى حَسْناً ولا حَسْنا

ولا تطع في الهوى حَسْناً ولا حَسْنا

Purify your heart of the love of beauty within it.

Purify your heart from loving beauty through him

And in love, obey neither a handsome man nor a beautiful woman.

And do not obey in passion a beauty or a handsome one

إني امرؤٌ شيمةُ الحسناء من شيمي

إني امرؤٌ شيمةُ الحسناء من شيمي

لكنني في هواها حرفُ إستثنا

لكنني في هواها حرفُ إستثنا

I am a man whose habits include beholding the beautiful woman,

I am a man whom the qualities of the beautiful are part of my qualities

But in loving her, I am a particle of exception.

But in her love, I am an exception
