1. يا ذائباً من وجده

    بالكبريا لا تنصدمْ

    O you melting with longing,

    do not be struck down by pride.

  2. أمُّ الكبائر إنها

    تُفني الأنام وتنتقمْ

    It is the mother of grave sins;

    it destroys humankind and takes vengeance.

  3. كم فاضلٍ أضحى بسي

    ف خبالها كالمنهدم

    Many a virtuous man has become, by the

    sword of its madness, like one laid low.

  4. قد مزقت أحشاءه

    بل نفسه كي ينعدم

    It has torn his entrails apart,

    nay, his very soul, so that he may cease to exist.

  5. أضحت فضائلُ نُسكه

    مرذولةً كالمنسَقم

    The virtues of his devotion have become

    despised, like a sickly man.

  6. صن قلبنا مع عقلنا

    مع وهمنا يا محتكم

    Guard our heart together with our reason,

    and our imagination, O arbiter.
