دعleave راهباًa monk لاnot يخدمُserves اللَهGod ربَّهhis Lord
دع راهباً لا يخدمُ اللَه ربَّه
بحرصٍwith zeal ويمسيand reaches evening بالبطالةwith idleness راضياcontent
بحرصٍ ويمسي بالبطالة راضيا
Leave a monk who does not serve God, his Lord,
With zeal, and reaches evening content with idleness,
ولمand has not يَتلُrecounted فيin معنىthe matter of الخلاصsalvation اجتهادَهhis striving
ولم يَتلُ في معنى الخلاص اجتهادَه
علىtoward الخيرgood بلrather يتلوhe recites عليناto us التوانياidleness
على الخير بل يتلو علينا التوانيا
Nor has recounted, concerning salvation, his striving
Toward good; instead, he recites idleness to us.
فلاso no ريبdoubt أنthat اللَهGod يبلوهtests him بغتةًsuddenly
فلا ريب أن اللَه يبلوه بغتةً
بتجربةٍwith a trial تُبقيهleaves him للدهرforever باكياweeping
بتجربةٍ تُبقيه للدهر باكيا
There is no doubt that God will suddenly test him
With a trial that leaves him weeping forever.
وذيand this رحمةٌmercy منfrom ربهhis Lord كيso that يَرُدَّهHe may bring him back
وذي رحمةٌ من ربه كي يَرُدَّه
فعلّمهso He taught him منfrom ذاكthat التوانيindolence المساوياthe evils
فعلّمه من ذاك التواني المساويا
And this is mercy from his Lord, to bring him back,
Thus teaching him the evils of that indolence.
