رأيت اللَه حل بكل قلبٍ

رأيت اللَه حل بكل قلبٍ

وديعٍ زيدَ فضلاً في الحواشي

I saw God dwell in every heart

Gentle, enriched with grace along its edges.

وقلب الخَبِّ مأوى كل شرٍّ

وقلب الخَبِّ مأوى كل شرٍّ

كذا قلبُ الغضوب على ارتعاش

كذا قلبُ الغضوب على ارتعاش

And the deceiver's heart is a refuge for every evil;

So too the wrathful man's heart, all a-tremble.

خبيثٌ هو أخو الشيطان حقّاً

خبيثٌ هو أخو الشيطان حقّاً

فذا شرٌّ وذاك إليه ماش

فذا شرٌّ وذاك إليه ماش

A wicked man is truly Satan's brother;

For this one is evil, and that one walks toward him.

أرى الشيطان يهجو كل خيرٍ

أرى الشيطان يهجو كل خيرٍ

ولكن ليس مثلَ أخيه واش

ولكن ليس مثلَ أخيه واش

I see Satan revile every good thing,

But no talebearer is like his brother.

أخو الشيطان ذو خبث ومكرٍ

أخو الشيطان ذو خبث ومكرٍ

له ذاك الغضوب ابنٌ وناشِ

له ذاك الغضوب ابنٌ وناشِ

Satan's brother possesses malice and guile;

That wrathful man is his son and scion.

وإني قد نظرت إلى خبيثٍ

وإني قد نظرت إلى خبيثٍ

كشيطانين في جسمٍ مُغاش

كشيطانين في جسمٍ مُغاش

And I have indeed looked upon a wicked man,

Like two devils cloaked within a body.

يسوء النفسَ فيما يبتليها

يسوء النفسَ فيما يبتليها

ويُضني الجسم في طلب المعاش

ويُضني الجسم في طلب المعاش

He grieves the soul with what he puts it through,

And wears the body out in seeking a livelihood.

فإن خالطتَه يُغويك سرّاً

فإن خالطتَه يُغويك سرّاً

وإن قاطعته يُبقيك خاش

وإن قاطعته يُبقيك خاش

So if you associate with him, he secretly leads you astray;

And if you cut him off, he keeps you afraid.
