Ah, may God curse the cause of distress!
Do not tell me that my gluttony is my feast.

How often my gluttony cries, "You, give me more!"
And I cry to you, "Is there any more?"

كمhow many قتيلٍa slain person كماas قُتلتُI was slain شهيدِa martyr
Then fornication answers from a glutton's belly:
"How many a martyr has been slain, as I was slain!"
قيَّدَbind الجوفَthe belly تستردَّyou will regain عفافاًchastity
رعىmay ... preserve اللهGod فضلَthe virtue of تلكthose القيودfetters
Bind the belly, and you will regain chastity.
Ah, may God preserve the virtue of those fetters!

For the chaste person's place in a glutton's house
Is like Christ's place among the Jews.

With God, binding them with pledges.

If you keep your pledge to a life of hardship,
You will surely reach the gardens of eternity.
