May he who betrays the covenant not live,
No one lives who betrays a covenant treacherously
And vile is the scoundrel who keeps no faith.
How wretched is tomorrow that brings no loyalty

Time ran ahead of me, and I followed it,
Time has passed before me and I followed it
Hoping to see something different, I found it.
That I may see something different, but found it the same

وهو مولع بنكث عهدي
I befriended a scoundrel who coaxed affection from me,
I kept company with an ignoble person, trying to gain my affection
While he was bent on breaking his pledge to me.
While he is inclined to break his vows to me

He used to call himself the lord of fidelity,
He used to call himself the epitome of loyalty
And now, at the mention of me, he shrugs his shoulder.
And now when I am mentioned, he shrugs his shoulders

He showed me affection to pluck my blossoms,
He showed me affection in order to reap my fruits
And once he possessed them, he turned his back.
But when he gained power, he turned his back

So my wheat became weeds to him
And my pearls became filth to him.
And my pearls turned to pebbles in his eyes

Of one like this, David said:
About the likes of him, David warned
They have eaten my bread and turned on their heels.
They ate my bread and turned their heels against me

May God not bless the treacherous one
Nor may He watch over anyone who cannot be trusted.
Or shepherd those who have no fidelity
