لكن يزول بأن تحب وتخلصا

Alas! Hatred like his is never done away with hate,

but it fades when you love and are sincere.

Rather it passes when you love and are sincere.

ولقد ترى الحمقى الذين تحبهم

ولقد ترى الحمقى الذين تحبهم

يرجون من ألم الشقاء تملصا

يرجون من ألم الشقاء تملصا

And indeed, you see the fools you love

And you see the fools whom you love,

hoping to escape the pain of misery.

Hoping to escape the pain of misery.

فاسلك بهم طرق النجاة مذللاً

فاسلك بهم طرق النجاة مذللاً

لهم العقاب مفكراً وممحصا

لهم العقاب مفكراً وممحصا

So lead them along the paths of deliverance, easing

So walk with them gently on the paths of salvation,

the steep passes for them, reflecting and scrutinizing.

Punishing them while thinking and examining.

هيهات تبلغ ما تمهد عندهم

هيهات تبلغ ما تمهد عندهم

للخير إلا خلسةً وتلصصا

للخير إلا خلسةً وتلصصا

You will never achieve what you prepare among them

Alas! You never attain what you pave for them

for the sake of good, except by stealth and furtive means.

Of good, except secretly and stealthily.

وإذا ابتليت بنكسةٍ من حمقهم

وإذا ابتليت بنكسةٍ من حمقهم

فاحذر لنفسك أن تفر وتنكصا

فاحذر لنفسك أن تفر وتنكصا

And if you suffer a setback from their folly,

And if you are afflicted by a setback from their folly,

then, for your own sake, beware of fleeing and drawing back.

Beware of fleeing and retreating for yourself.
