Do not mention yesterday; I have lived concealing it.

If my wound forgives the heart, who will heal it?

My heart and your eyes, and the days between them—

A long road; we grew weary of its tragedies.

If the heart beats, how can we bring life back?

All that died within us—how can we revive it?

Longing is a long road I spent my life following.

Then the road ended, and its songs came to rest.

We came to the road, and joys carried us.

And today we returned with a river of tears to mourn it.

I still know that longing is my sin.

And passion, by God, is a sin I do not hide.

My heart, which is still a child, reproaches me:

How did the feast end, and its nights come to an end?

O joy that still intoxicates me like a phantom,

How did the dream end in sorrows and bewilderment?

Until, when our evening gathering ended like the feast,

We returned to sorrow: it makes us bleed, and we make it bleed.

The robe of hopes still deceives me with light.

A middle-aged man may become a child in his hopes.

I long at night for a fragrance from you that brings me to life.

And ask the fragrance how separation torments it.

And ask the night whether its breast has slept.

It no longer dozes, with my tears in the corners of its eyes.

O knight of passion, is there forgiveness in love?

You shattered love's edifice, and now you weep for it.

Love, like life, courses through our breasts,

Until, once it has passed, nothing can make it stay.

I often reproached my heart: how can you remember her,

And cast your tender life amid despair?

Each day you bring back yesterday in tedium.

The wound may heal, but remembrance revives it.

If you bring life back, I know this heart.

By God, you are still a bewildered pulse within it.

I long for my sin, for in your eyes lies my forgiveness.

O sin of my life, and O purest of its nights!

What use is sorrow? I am addicted to my sin.

Pardon does no good, nor do I seek forgiveness.

I see life as forgiveness in your eyes.

My heart has gone astray, so tell me how I can guide it.
