You prevailed over the people by the right you hold

Over them, and by blows struck without half-measures.

Indeed, God ordained the Messenger as His mercy

For mankind, while mankind was in pitch-black darkness.

I truly marveled at the Azdi, brought along

By a deluded man's doom, driving him toward death,

Until God's servants saw him on a mast,

Upside down, and bound to a pig.

Ships are surely less formidable when you steer them

Through the water, their planks coated with pitch,

While they stand, their oars in their hands,

Girded, naked save for short drawers,

Until they saw Abu al-ʿAsi's marked steeds

Galloping in squadrons, bearing proud, intrepid warriors,

Than war with the house of Abu al-ʿAsi, when they are angered,

With every bright, patterned blade, like a twisted cloth whip.

Begone, Kulayb! For God indeed consigned you

Long ago to abodes of humiliation and debasement.
