عَدُوَّكَ وَالأَبصارُ فيهِ تَقَطَّعُ
You have built a structure before which rage chokes
You built a tower, anger foams beneath it,
your enemy, and eyes strain to breaking as they gaze upon it.
Your enemy's eyes burst from gazing upon it.
وَإِنَّكَand indeed you فيin الأُخرىthe other sphere إِذاwhen الحَربُwar شَمَّرَتgirded herself
وَإِنَّكَ في الأُخرى إِذا الحَربُ شَمَّرَت
لَكَالسَيفِsurely like a sword ماwhatever يُنخىis summoned لَهُagainst it السَيفُthe sword يُقطَعُis cut down
لَكَالسَيفِ ما يُنخى لَهُ السَيفُ يُقطَعُ
And you, in the other sphere, when war girds herself,
And in battle, when war shakes out its forelock,
are surely like a sword: whatever the sword is summoned against is cut down.
You are a sword such as swords themselves are shattered against.

You cut off the noses of Mazun, so I see none
You cut off the limbs of the heavily armed,
more abased and disgraced than they on the day they were mutilated.
No one was more abject or despised when their arms were lopped.

And you loaded the mules' rumps with what now lies
You loaded the backs of mules till they shone
cropped and gleaming in every desert waste:
Like beacons, abandoned in every barren land.

Thirsty dead, or ostriches plucked bare.

And you saved Abu Minal, as if he were
the two hands of a swimmer striking out through deep water.
A swimmer's hand in a deep, stormy sea.
