ما أَنتَ إِن قَرما تَميمٍ تَساوَيا

ما أَنتَ إِن قَرما تَميمٍ تَساوَيا

أَخا التَيمِ إِلّا كَالشَظِيَّةِ في العَظمِ

أَخا التَيمِ إِلّا كَالشَظِيَّةِ في العَظمِ

You are, if Tamim’s two chieftains stand as equals,

You are not worth, if a Quraysh man is equalized

O brother of Taym, nothing but a splinter in the bone.

To a brother of Taym except as splinters in the bone

وَلَو كُنتَ مَولى العِزِّ أَو في ظِلالِهِ

وَلَو كُنتَ مَولى العِزِّ أَو في ظِلالِهِ

ظَلَمتَ وَلَكِن لا يَدَي لَكَ بِالظُلمِ

ظَلَمتَ وَلَكِن لا يَدَي لَكَ بِالظُلمِ

And were you a lord of might, or beneath its shade,

And if you were a master of glory or in its shades

You would oppress—but you have no power to oppress.

You did wrong, but you have no power over injustice
