إِذا حانَ يَومُ الأَعوَرِ بنِ بَحيرِ
Who will tackle the lizards that defy capture and lure them out
Who will protect the weary mists and their tribe
when the day of al-A‘war ibn Baḥīr comes?
When the day of the one-eyed son of Bahr draws near
إِذاif الضَبُّthe spiny-tailed lizard أَعياproves too difficult أَنto يَجيءَcome out لِحَرشِهِfor luring it out

If the lizard proves too difficult to coax out,
When the hyena howls to come to its tribe
digging it out is no great task in his eyes.
What it digs in its eye is no small thing
