أَفي طَرَفَي عامٍ وَكيعٌ وَمُحرِزٌ

أَفي طَرَفَي عامٍ وَكيعٌ وَمُحرِزٌ

وَأَنّى لَنا مِثلاهُما لِتَميمِ

وَأَنّى لَنا مِثلاهُما لِتَميمِ

Wakīʿ and Muḥriz—at the two ends of a single year?

Two years have passed and I am dejected and safeguarded

And where can we find two like them for Tamīm?

How can we find two more years like them, O Tameem

سِماكانِ كانا يَرفَعانِ بِناءَنا

سِماكانِ كانا يَرفَعانِ بِناءَنا

وَمِردى حُروبٍ جَمَّةٍ وَخُصومِ

وَمِردى حُروبٍ جَمَّةٍ وَخُصومِ

Two Simāk stars who used to raise our edifice,

They were pillars supporting our structure

And a bludgeon in many wars and against foes.

And strongholds against hordes of wars and foes
