غَداةَ كَسا أَجنادَهُ البيضَ وَالقَنا

غَداةَ كَسا أَجنادَهُ البيضَ وَالقَنا

وَجُرداً تَعادى مِن كُمَيتٍ وَأَشقَرا

وَجُرداً تَعادى مِن كُمَيتٍ وَأَشقَرا

That morning he equipped his troops with gleaming swords and lances,

And sleek horses racing one another, bay and chestnut;

عَلَيها الكُماةُ المُعلَمونَ كَأَنَّهُم

عَلَيها الكُماةُ المُعلَمونَ كَأَنَّهُم

أُسودُ الغِياضِ لابِسينَ السَنَوَّرا

أُسودُ الغِياضِ لابِسينَ السَنَوَّرا

Upon them rode warriors bearing battle insignia, as though they were

Lions of the thickets, clad in coats of mail.

أَباحَ لَهُم أَهلَ النِفاقِ وَلَم يَرَوا

أَباحَ لَهُم أَهلَ النِفاقِ وَلَم يَرَوا

لَهُ مَنكِباً عَن غَمرَةِ المَوتِ أَزوَرا

لَهُ مَنكِباً عَن غَمرَةِ المَوتِ أَزوَرا

He made the hypocrites lawful prey for them, and they never saw

His shoulder turn aside from death’s engulfing depths.
