إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle أَتاهاcomes upon it بِالمَناياwith deaths حَديدُهاtheir steel
إِذا ما أَتاها بِالمَنايا حَديدُها
Take provisions, for no soul can labor for itself
He has equipped himself, yet no soul has any means to repel
when death's steel comes upon it, bringing doom.
The arrival of its destined death by its weapons
فَيوشِكَso is about to نَفسٌa soul أَنto تَكونَbe حَياتُهاits life
فَيوشِكَ نَفسٌ أَن تَكونَ حَياتُها
وَإِنand even if مَسَّهاtouches it مَوتٌdeath طَويلاًlong خُلودُهاits endurance
وَإِن مَسَّها مَوتٌ طَويلاً خُلودُها
For a soul's life may soon be
A soul is close to having its life as its end
long-lasting, even if death touches it.
And if death touches it for long, its endurance is its eternity
وَسَوفَand will تَرىyou see النَفسَthe soul الَّتيwhich اِكتَدَحَتyou toiled لَهاfor it
وَسَوفَ تَرى النَفسَ الَّتي اِكتَدَحَت لَها

إِذا النَفسُ لَم تَنطِق وَماتَ وَريدُها
And you shall see the soul for which you toiled,
And you will see the soul that labored for itself
when the soul no longer speaks and its jugular vein has died.
When the soul cannot speak and its arteries die

To Abul Ashbal, as his generosity freed me

So I began walking on my two legs standing
upon them, though they had long been idle.
On them, when previously sitting on them was prolonged

Through your hands upon me, its presence was not obscured

Khalid's Bajilah built it with its own hands,
Bajailah of Khalid built it with her hands
and through it its Yazid reached the highest reaches of the sky.
And through it obtained the highest level of increase

I found you rising above every tribe
when the fiercest trials overpowered their contenders.
When the peers of commandments were severe in their strength

And whenever Bajailah met a raid
its defender was from among you, and its chief from among you.
Among you was its protector, and among you its chief

And Bajailah of Khalid has never spent a day

Without you leading her or among you one who leads her

When she donned armor and marched forth

To the clad in armor in a march that finds none to repel her

a tribe whose fortunes have humbled the fortunate—
Having demolished the people of glory, their glory
