لَناours مَنكِبُthe shoulder الإِسلامُIslam وَالهامَةُand the head الَّتيwhich
لَنا مَنكِبُ الإِسلامُ وَالهامَةُ الَّتي
إِذاwhen ما(emphatic particle) بَدَتit appears لِلهامِto the heads ذَلَّتare humbled كِبارُهاtheir greatest
إِذا ما بَدَت لِلهامِ ذَلَّت كِبارُها
Ours is Islam’s shoulder, and the head that
Ours are Islam’s shoulder and the head
whenever it appears among other heads, humbles the greatest of them.
Before which, whenever it appears, the greatest heads are humbled.
سَوابِقُناour fleet steeds فيon كُلِّevery يَومٍday حَفيظَةٍprotective zeal
سَوابِقُنا في كُلِّ يَومٍ حَفيظَةٍ
مُبَرِّزَةٌoutstripping the rest ماnot يُستَطاعُis possible حِضارُهاracing alongside them
مُبَرِّزَةٌ ما يُستَطاعُ حِضارُها
Our foremost deeds, on every day of honor’s fierce defense,
Our fleet steeds, on every day of zealous defense,
stand conspicuous—none has the power to contain them.
Outstrip the rest; none can race alongside them.
وَإِنّاand indeed we لَمِمّاsurely among those who تَضرِبُstrike الكَبشَthe ram ضَربَةًa blow
وَإِنّا لَمِمّا تَضرِبُ الكَبشَ ضَربَةً
عَلىupon رَأسِهِhis head وَالحَربُwhile war قَدalready لاحَhas shone forth نارُهاits fire
عَلى رَأسِهِ وَالحَربُ قَد لاحَ نارُها
And we are indeed among those who strike the ram—the foremost champion—with a blow
And we are indeed among those who strike the ram a blow
upon his head, when the fire of war has flared into view.
Upon his head, with war’s fire already blazing.
