O Jandal, were it not for two bonds of friendship that have settled
Jandal, if not for two encampments that settled
with you, your mother would surely have reproached you, Jandal.
Near you, your mother would have blamed you, O Jandal

وَإِنَّand indeed نُمَيراًNumayr وُدُّهاlove for her لاnot يُبَدَّلُis changed
The core of a heart whose reason cannot set you straight,
A dove with a heart not guided by reason
and indeed, love for Numayr remains unchanged.
Her love for Numair will never change
وَلَولاand were it not for نُمَيرٌNumayr إِنَّنيindeed, I لاnot أَسُبُّهاI revile her

And were it not for Numayr—indeed, I do not revile her—
If it weren't for Numair, I would not praise her
and love for Numayr, unchanged if she goes forth,
And Numair's love for her, if she walks, will not waver
I would surely have tasked you الشَأوَthe goal الَّذيwhich لَستَyou are not نايِلاًattaining

I would have set you a goal you cannot attain,
I would have burdened you with an endeavor you cannot attain
and until you see the heavier of the two buckets—
So you may see that the two sins are most heavy

Khindif or Qays—when there gather with them
Is it Khindif or Qais, when they meet them
at the station of sacrificial offerings, the sandal-garlanded riding camels.
To the station of the trained camel, saddled and shod?
