لَقَد أَمِنَت وَحشُ البِلادِ بِجامِعٍ

لَقَد أَمِنَت وَحشُ البِلادِ بِجامِعٍ

عَصا الدينِ حَتّى ما تَخافُ نَوارُها

عَصا الدينِ حَتّى ما تَخافُ نَوارُها

Indeed, the land’s wild beasts are safe through one who makes whole

The wild beasts of the land have found safety in a unifier,

the staff of faith, so that its skittish creatures have no fear.

The staff of religion, so that its plains need not fear.

بِهِ أَمَّنَ اللَهُ البِلادَ فَساكِنٌ

بِهِ أَمَّنَ اللَهُ البِلادَ فَساكِنٌ

بِكُلِّ طَريدٍ لَيلُها وَنَهارُها

بِكُلِّ طَريدٍ لَيلُها وَنَهارُها

Through him God made the land secure, so tranquil

With it Allah has brought security to the land, so it is tranquil

for every fugitive are its night and day.

For all who live there night and day.

رَأَيتَ بَني مَروانَ خَيرَ عِمارَةٍ

رَأَيتَ بَني مَروانَ خَيرَ عِمارَةٍ

وَأَنتَ إِذا عُدَّت قُرَيشٌ خِيارُها

وَأَنتَ إِذا عُدَّت قُرَيشٌ خِيارُها

You have seen the sons of Marwan to be the finest clan,

You have seen the Marwanids as the best builders of civilization

And you, when Quraysh is reckoned, are its finest.

And you, when the Quraysh are counted, as the best of them.

أَتاكَ بِها مَخشوشَةً بِزِمامِها

أَتاكَ بِها مَخشوشَةً بِزِمامِها

خِلافَتَهُ إِذ في يَدَيكَ اِختِبارُها

خِلافَتَهُ إِذ في يَدَيكَ اِختِبارُها

He brought it to you, fitted with a nose-peg, by its rein—

To you it has come, its reins in its mouth,

his caliphate, since its testing lies in your hands.

To test its caliphate, since in your hands lies the testing of it.
