Whenever the joints of Islam’s staff grow soft.

A brother to perils, whose resolve dispels doubt,

And indeed he bestows a favor, seeking no reward for it.

Indeed, he led sleek horses from beside Wasit,

Their dust rising before the evening travelers,

And a gray host in which Death has shoulders,

When it advances one day and its slow march creeps onward.
