لَوhad بِأَبيto Abū جامِعٍJāmiʿ عَرَّضتُI hinted at حاجَتَناour need
لَو بِأَبي جامِعٍ عَرَّضتُ حاجَتَنا
أَنجَحتُI would have succeeded أَوor بِبَنيto the sons of العَوجاءِal-ʿAwjāʾ مِنof قَطَنِQaṭan
أَنجَحتُ أَو بِبَني العَوجاءِ مِن قَطَنِ
Had I hinted at our need to Abū Jāmiʿ,
I would have succeeded—or by appealing to al-ʿAwjāʾ’s sons of Qaṭan.
بَنوthe sons of قُبَيصَةَQubayṣa لاnot تَخفىare hidden مَكارِمُهُمtheir noble deeds

مِن دونِ أَعراضِهِم أَموالُهُم جُنَنُ
The sons of Qubayṣa—their noble deeds are no secret;
Their riches are shields defending their honor.
