By my life, Ibn Khansa's waterholes and his water—
By my life! The water of Athmad the son of Khansa
Musallihat al-Untha, whose soil is foul—
Is armed, her despicable soil.

Are less burdensome to the ʿIbadi elder,
It is lighter for the devout old man to bear
And easier than war with me when its fang grinds.
And easier than my war when its severity intensifies.

Is it over Awra, which I worked and dug,
Have I healed it in a shelter I dug around it -
With Tamim all around it and its deed in my keeping?
Tamim are its surroundings and with me is its book.

Ours is the ground where damran grows, O clan of Malik,
For us is the pasture of adh-Dhimraan, O clan of Malik!
And Sulmi's arfaj shrubs are ours, and its rugged tracts.
And the rugged path of Sulamiyy is for us and its precipices.
