By my life, a Bedouin woman in a tent,

With the wind ever blowing at her tent’s two sides,

    Like a gazelle’s mother or a diver’s pearl,

Shining like a cloud whenever she appears,

Is dearer to us than a corpulent, thickset woman,

Who sweats when the fans are taken away from her,

Like the farmer’s watermelon, whose color delights

While whole, but whose rot shows when it is split.
