In the darkness of nights that overwhelmed me
Bilal cleared its darkness away from me,
Their darkness was dispelled from me by the crescent moon

A left hand helping it whenever it rises.
It supports it when the left rises

As they gaze fixedly when the crescent moon is sighted.
As they glance upward when the crescent is seen

In defense of ancestral honor, when the archery contest grew earnest.
Beyond reckoning when strife was heated

At Mecca, where the camel-saddles were laid down:
In Mecca where the mounts were lodged
