And in al-Aqsa Mosque is the imam through whom guidance came
To the straying within the hearts of doubters.

Through him God dispelled affliction, and there shone
For him the earth, while the horizons' crescent was ill-omened.

From the people the times of darkened fortune,

We tightened the hackberry-wood saddles, while pain from them
Afflicted their withers; their saddles never settled.

Thus needs now find their fulfillment with you,
And every sturdy she-camel spends her strength reaching you.

Their traveling would surely drain the marrow from my bones.

Toward Sulayman, who frees the captives, they converge;
Their hoof-soles are spinning tops among the backward-swinging legs.

They race nightfall to their eggs and dust-gray chicks,
Alarmed for them, while the pale camels' exhaustion is feared.

As though the man whose worry had afflicted him
Had within him the fever of al-Qatif's lingering ills.

So you gained spring's abundant rain instead, and turned away
From you was a mill whose flour-mat had been relentless.
