And fair women among Mujāshiʿ's daughters—upward rose
White and bright, daughters of a tender father,
Through them his proud distinctions to ancestral glory.
Through them to time-honoured glory are the tribe's prides.

Dark-eyed daughters of one father, as though their laden camels
Daughters of a free man, as though the snarling beasts
Bore upon them the calves of pure-white wild cattle.
Had loaded them with terror from the waste at night.

Sufyān clothed them in pure color, and chose
For them Sufyan chose the finest linen
For them the finest cloth when its merchant came.
When he met their merchant with treasures of old.

They grazed the autumn rain's first milk, where burst open
They pastured the branded camels where clouds parted
The cauls of gleaming clouds, and their rain-cloud burst forth.
And the rain’s abundance soaked all the hills and wadis.

They took turns feeding on its kinds and its coarse herbs,
They took turns with the males, the freedmen and clients
And its choice herbs, until its blossoms grew splendid.
Till their camp on the plain bloomed like a garden.

نُوَيرَةَ يَسعى بِالشَياهينِ طائِرُه
A preserve no swift one guarded, nor did
A sanctuary no horseman challenged or Shaykh
Its bird fear Nuwayrah going forth with peregrine falcons.
Whose hawk sought prey while he coursed with greyhounds.

If you two bar equals, or are driven with them
And if they deny such maidens or spurn the peerless,
Against it, then its midday heats have heated spears.
Their tall spears they will defend them from all reproach.

From the desert it roams, sweeping away its dust—
He roams the desert protecting them from heat
Its scorching heat, reaching it from al-Jawzāʾ's hand in high summer.
That sears at noon when their sheltering tree is parched.

By my life, Zurārah was indeed granted grazing in the preserve
By my life, Zurarah pastured them in sanctuary
By shaded, freshly drawn milk from milch camels, and its sour milk.
While the dripping pollen stained their shade and courtyard.
