وَمَشمولَةٍand a wine cooled by the north wind ساوَرتُI assailed آخِرَthe end of لَيلَةٍa night
زُجاجَتَهاits bottle وَالصُبحُwhile dawn لَمhad not يَتَنَفَّسِbreathed
And a wine cooled by the north wind—at night's end I assailed
its bottle, while dawn had not yet breathed.
وَقُلتُand I said اِسقِيانيهاyou two, pour it for me فَإِنَّfor indeed أَمامَهاahead of it
مَذاهِبَpaths لِلفَخَّيرَةِfor the great boaster المُتَغَطرِسِthe swaggering one
And I said, “Pour it for me, you two, for ahead of it
lie paths for the swaggering braggart.”
فَماso not زِلتُI ceased أُسقاهاI am served it وَماand not زِلتُI ceased ساقِياًserving drink
تُفيتُoutstrips يَديmy hand فيin بَذلِهاgiving it freely كُلَّevery مُنفِسِwealthy man
So I kept being served it, and kept serving it,
my hand outstripping every wealthy man in giving it freely.
