    Whether our killing kings was wrong

    Or right, we have indeed slain Labid.

    And we laid kings beside kings,

    With sleek steeds bearing iron.

    We kindle war—by Him by whom people swear—

    Against your people, and set the fuel ablaze,

    ءَ وَلا نَجعَلُ الحُروبَ وعيدا

    Until you restore to us the tribute and the spoils;

    And we do not make wars mere threats.

    If old women of Nizar blame me,

    Then I judge myself to have done well in what I did.
