Do you know the ruins at daybreak
at the mercy of wind and steady, pouring rain?
Covered with gusts of wind and drizzle?

The wise man can discern in them
faded, like the workmanship of craftsmen.
Traces of homesteads like craftsmen's work.

and for an eye from which tears rushed forth
And for the eye from which tears flowed
for Kulayb, when the tears outstripped it in their downpour.
For Kulayb when exhaustion overtook him,

For Kulayb, while the winds over him
For Kulayb when the winds blew on him

The dust with their hems.

I have quenched my thirst from the family of Bakr,
the clan of Shayban, paternal and maternal uncles alike.
The family of Shaiban between uncle and uncle.

How can I be patient, when you have killed Kulayb
How can I have patience when you killed Kulayb
and doomed yourselves by killing him in days gone by?
And caused me anguish by killing him in seclusion?
فَلَعَمريso, by my life لَأَقتُلَنَّI shall surely kill بِكُلَيبٍin vengeance for Kulayb

By my life, I have trampled the Bani Bakr
for what they committed, with the trampling tread of sandals.
With a trampling like that of sandals.

I left none but dogs, women,
and slave women gathering firewood, and dependants.
Young slave girls, old women, and boys.

he abandoned the mothers among the baggage.
He surrendered the womenfolk with their belongings.
