O love, because of you my state is unsettled.

I did not know whether I am a slave in you or a king.

I did not know the secret of this split, which enfolded

what is within me—did Iblis surround it, or an angel?

Unveiling and coverings, a refuge and a place of ruin.

O ill fortune of my night, does each have a share in me?!

O love, neither my harmony nor yours in

the well of prophecy is intoxication; rather, it is devotion.

Our path is glorious memories, and

around me and around you lies a secret wrapped in woven patterns.

Yes, I was lost—and how often I dug for my trace!

Even my own pillar I no longer possess.

I am the drowned one, and my limbs are shackled.

My name confronts arrogance and does battle.

Drown, Imad, and be alive without a lung,

without life, if fish do not drown.

Drown, Imad, to live a thousand thousand spans,

and let neither fisherman nor net trouble you.
