O my lord, this is a new year, and your bounty—

The years pass over it, yet it remains new.

It has come to you with smiling lips, joyful, as though it

    Knew what you seek and desire for it;

Knew it would meet your bounty, and that you would redeem

Its nights for your exalted glory, auspicious as they are.

It was not granted knowledge of the unseen, but there appeared to it

Signs from what preceded it, and witnesses.

O you through whom the poor have lived, and whose

Generous deeds now roam the eastern and western horizons:

The sons of Sursock have stood behind you, and behind them

Noble men, standing and sitting in generosity's service.

You teach them what path leads to greatness,

And how to be remembered with praise.

And among the gifts your two hands bestow is that I

Am content and happy with what I have received from you.

So may you never cease to meet its like each year,

And may your life with your noble family be full of ease.

If this festival comes once a year,

Then every day of your existence is a festival.
