My beloved, come; you will find your home

ready for you, just as it was before.

Come, for none but you has occupied my heart,

and no one else has entered my thoughts.

Come, for here is spring's carpet,

embroidering your velvet with its flowers.

Come, look at the radiant stars who

bared themselves when they donned the darkness.

For without you, these stars would not have appeared,

and without you, this celestial sphere would not have turned.

My beloved, come, draw near to me—for how often

I have envied the breeze that kissed you!

Come, lift despair from a man wasting away,

who will perish if you do not hasten to him.

Come, witness the death throes—the death throes of one who

asked you for nothing but a tear of longing.

Come, weep for a lovesick man departing; and were it not for

his farewell to life, he would not have urged you to hurry.

    I am dying for a sip from your dark lips;

so, O most generous of people, how miserly you are!
