أَوَدُّI wish لِعَينَيكِfor your eyes نورَlight الهِلالِthe crescent moon
يُنارُis illumined بِهِby it الحَلكُthe darkness الأَدهَمُpitch-black
I wish for your eyes the crescent moon’s light,
I wish for your eyes the light of the crescent moon,
By which the deepest blackness is illumined;
By which the pitch-black darkness is illumined;
وَلِلشِّعرِand for the hair مِنكof yours سَوادَblackness الظَلامِthe darkness
يَضلُّloses his way بِهِthrough it العاشِقُthe lover المُغرَمُenamored
And for your hair, the blackness of night,
And for your hair, the blackness of darkness,
In which the enamored lover loses his way.
By which the enamored lover loses his way.
أَوَدُّI wish لِقَلبِكِfor your heart حُبّاًa love شَريفاًnoble
فَيَرحَمُso it has mercy حُبّيmy love وَلاand not يَظلُمُit wrongs
I wish for your heart a noble love,
I wish for your heart a noble love,
That would show mercy to my love and not wrong it;
So it may have mercy on my love and do it no wrong;
وَلِلنَّفسِand for the soul مِنكِof yours إِباءًdignity وَحلماًand forbearance

And for your soul, dignity and forbearance,
And for your soul, dignity and forbearance,
So whenever it sees a sinner, it shows clemency.
So it shows forbearance whenever it sees a sinner.
أَوَدُّI wish لِرجلِكِfor your foot لَيلَthe night الوجودِexistence

I wish for your foot the night of existence,
I wish for your foot the night of existence,
As a shoe whose hobnails are the stars,
As a shoe whose nails are the stars,
لَكيماso that إِذاif دستِyou tread صَدرِيَmy chest يَوماًone day

So that if one day you tread upon my breast,
So that, if you tread upon my chest one day,
The bones within it may be illumined.
The bones within it may be illumined.
