    I created you as an image of what I loved.

    So you are wine from my inspiration, and sustenance.

    And claims wrest you from my rightful possession,

    As though I had neither loved nor suffered.

    The world claims a lamp for someone else:

    Its wick is his, and its oils are mine.

    And how often has time denied me a right,

    And how often has time perished, while I have not.

    وَحُبُّكِ آيَةُ العُشّاقِ صيتُ

    Your fidelity, the joy of generations, is remembrance;

    And your love, the marvel of lovers, is renown.

    تشعُّ لهُ بِديواني البيوتُ

    You are a vision from my soul and heart;

    The verses in my collection shine for it.

    I poured upon it perfumes from my love,

    And from my poetry, beauty that does not die.
