تَنسَلُّslip stealthily تَحتَbeneath سدولهits curtains الآثامُthe sins
تَنسَلُّ تَحتَ سدوله الآثامُ
How often I have seen you, while darkness broods,
How often have I seen you when darkness descends
Sins slipping beneath its curtains.
Slithering beneath its veil of sins
تَشدوyou sing عَلىupon القيثارِthe lyre أَنغامَmelodies الأَسىsorrow
تَشدو عَلى القيثارِ أَنغامَ الأَسى
فَتجيبُكso they answer you الأَوجاعُthe aches وَالآلامُand the pains
فَتجيبُك الأَوجاعُ وَالآلامُ
You sing melodies of sorrow upon the lyre,
Strumming the guitar with melodies of sorrow
And so aches and pains answer you.
With anguish and pain responding to you
إِذهبgo لكوخِكto your hut فَالسَلامُfor peace مجسَّمٌembodied
إِذهب لكوخِك فَالسَلامُ مجسَّمٌ

فيهِ وَما ذا الوُجودِ سَلامُ
Go to your hut, for peace is embodied
Go to your hut, for in it peace materializes
Within it; there is no peace in this world.
While in existence there is no peace

Go to it, for an hour will come
Go to it, for the hour will come
When the oppressors will bite their fingertips.
When darkness gnaws at its sides

Keep vigil to bring down the pillars of hypocrisy,
Stay up undermining the pillars of vanity
And leave the eyes of the wealthy to sleep.
And leave the eyes of the wealthy to slumber

Their souls dream of money; how often
Their spirits lost in dreams of riches
These dreams have troubled them!
Disturbed by dreams you’ve caused them
