أنتَyou حَديثيmy talk فيin النّومِsleep واليَقَظَهْand wakefulness
أنتَ حَديثي في النّومِ واليَقَظَهْ
أَتْعَبْتُI have wearied مِمّاwith what أَهْذيI rave بِكَabout you الحَفَظَهْthe guardian angels
أَتْعَبْتُ مِمّا أَهْذي بِكَ الحَفَظَهْ
You are my talk in sleep and wakefulness.
You are my speech in sleep and in waking
I have wearied the guardian angels with my ravings about you.
I am weary of what with you I rehearse by heart
كَمْhow many واعِظٍa male admonisher فيكَabout you ليto me وواعِظَةٍand a female admonisher
كَمْ واعِظٍ فيكَ لي وواعِظَةٍ
لوif كُنْتُI were مِمّنْamong those whom تَنْهاهُit deters him عَنْكَfrom you عِظَهْadmonition
لو كُنْتُ مِمّنْ تَنْهاهُ عَنْكَ عِظَهْ
Many a man and woman admonishes me about you—
How many a preacher to me and preaching
were I one whom admonition could turn away from you!
If only I were one deterred from you by preaching
