خُذْtake مِنْfrom زَمَانِكَyour time ماwhat صَفَاis clear
ودَعِand leave الّذيthat which فيهِin it الكَدَرْcloudiness; distress
Take from your days what is clear,
Take from your time what is pure
And leave what is clouded;
And leave behind all that is troubled

مِنْthan أَنْto يُمَحّقَbe consumed بالغِيَرْby fortune’s changes
For life is too brief a span
For life is far too short
To be consumed by fortune’s changes.
To be wasted on the unworthy
